Döner (doo-ner) refers to the “spinning meat on a skewer.” The traditional döner meat is lamb, which is grilled vertically and shaved into slices. The first döner sandwiches came into existence around the late 1960s. Turkish immigrants in Berlin invented the idea by serving their national dish, Iskender kebab, in a sandwich.
The Döner Haus has a long history of serving its Turkish/German cuisine throughout areas like Vancouver/Portland and the Wenatchee Valley community. Whether it is at a busy food fair or from a food truck, customers have enjoyed döners and other specialty dishes for many years and counting.
Joe Knox and his two business partners believe this concept can grow into a marketable franchise in due time. Joe personally has visited multiple locations in Europe to learn about this cuisine firsthand. He even visited the original spot where the first döner meat skewers started in Berlin.
